World's Ten worst terrror attacks that shook the world
The frequency of terror attacks has increased considerably in recent times. Acts of terror are no longer a phenomenon that can be conveniently ignored by the masses.
Most of these attacks kill and maim hundreds of innocent people, for no mistake of theirs and with extremists continually seeking weapons of mass destruction, the threat of terrorism looms everywhere.
Here we present a list of 10 worst terror attacks that shook the world:
1. 9/11 attacks in the US

The 9/11 attacks have been regarded as the worst ever tragedy of the world.
The horrifying incident of two hijacked planes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001 destroyed both the skyscrapers into big balls of fire. Two other planes hijacked simultaneously by Al Qaeda terrorists slammed into the Pentagon , and into an open field in Pennsylvania.
The last plane was targeted for the US Capitol Hill. Nearly 3,000 people died in the 9/11 attacks, which included 227 passengers and 19 hijackers. Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist group Al Qaeda were the masterminds behind the attack.
2. Bombing of Wall Street- 16th September 1920

Thirty eight people lost their lives in the attack which took place on September 16, 1920 in Wall Street, New York. The nature of attack was reported to be one of the deadliest ones. The financial district of the New York City was extremely disturbed and the terrorists behind this scene are yet to be traced.
38 people were killed and 143 others were seriously wounded. The attack was related to post-World War I social unrest and anti-capitalist agitation in the US.
3. Ma’alot Massacre- 15th May 1973

This is the worst terrorist attack in the history of Israel. Three Palestinian terrorists, who belonged to Palestine liberation, were the reason behind this huge event. They entered the state through Lebanon and took over 115 people as hostages. They killed 25 people and 66 people were injured.
4. TWA Flight bomb blast- 8th September 1974

The TWA flight 841 was attacked while flying from Athens to Rome. It suddenly crashed due to a bomb blast losing all its 79 passengers. Although this was considered to be a case of engine failure initially, it was later discovered that the attack was intentional and crash was caused by a bomb blast.
This is credited to the terrorist organization of Abu Nidal.
5. Attacks at Manhattan- 3rd August 1977

This remains one of the worst terrorist attacks in the American history.The Puerto Rican FALN group attacked the city of Manhattan in August 1977. The building of defense department of the US as well as the Mobil Oil building came under attack. Although reports show one person to have been killed.
6. Chechen terror attacks

In September, 2004, Chechen terrorists took schoolchildren hostage in Beslan ending with the death of over 380 lives. In October 2002, 40 to 50 Chechen terrorists took 850 hostages inside the Dubrovka Theatre in Moscow.
After two and a half days of siege, russian Spetsnaz forces pumped chemical gas into the building’s ventilation system and raided it. 50 attackes were killed and about 117 hostages died due to adverse reaction of fentanyl gas.
7. Amerithrax attacks- 18th September 2001

The 2001 anthrax attacks on the US occured over several weeks beginning September 18, 2001. Letters containing anthrax spores were mailes to several news media offices and two US senators, killing five people and infecting 17 others.
8. Bombing of World Trade Center- 26th February 1993

On this day, a truck bomb was detonated at World Trade Center in New York. Six people were killed and more than a thousand people were injured.
However, the attacks could not bring down the twin towers. In essence, the attack failed. A group, which included Ahmad Ajaj, Mahmud Abouhalima, Nidal A. Ayyad, Ramzi Yousef, Abdul Rahman and Mohammad Salameh, planned this attack.
9. Mumbai 26/11 attacks - 26th November 2008

One of the most renowned landmarks of Mumbai, Hotel Taj Mahal situated in front of the Gateway of India, came under attack. This is the worst terror attack that occurred in the Indian history.
Ten Pakistani terrorists trained by ISI and Lashkar-e-Toiba came to Mumbai shore by boats and went to the Taj Mahal Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel.
National Security Guards and Mumbai policemen fought the terrorists for over sixty hours at Taj, Nariman House and Hotel Oberoi Trident.
All nine terrorists were killed. The tenth terrorist Ajmal Kasab was hanged in Pune jail. 166 civilians and nine terrorists were killed in the operation.
10. Bombing of Oklahoma City- 19th April 1995

The ghastly incident has been marked as one of the deadliest attacks in the American Soil. The Alfred P. Murrah Federal building of Oklahoma City was attacked on 19th April 1995.
Around 170 people were declared dead. The terrorist Timothy Mcveigh was responsible for the attack.
