Why Venice? I adore the atmosphere, the canals and the gondolas – it was quite simply love at first sight. The light in Venice is extraordinary too. It’s the perfect place to visit in May or June, though it’s a little hot for my liking in the high summer. My husband, Bob, and I have visited eight times – it’s one of our regular stops when we visit Europe.

I love walking along the canals and crossing the bridges, all the while marvelling at the city’s glorious architecture. The best way to soak up Venice’s unique atmosphere is just to slip on a pair of good shoes – and walk!
